Change, Present

Change as an action occurs in the present.  In terms of time and space the present is the only time that is real; the present moment opens the doorway to a future time, or a future reality. What occurs now affects the future.  The past is often referred to in “other worldly” terms, as if it occurred mysteriously, but we lived through our personal pasts. Whether we live aware or unaware the past has its own power that resides in our memories.  Past memory, or experience, we sometimes associate it with a “learned experience” or truth:  In fact what we think true in /and of the past is more or less rooted in our individual and personal perceptions.  Different people will process the past with very different perceptions. The adage “We learn from the past” speaks to how we perceive past experiences.  In actuality we learn from our reflections of the past and our personal experiences.  As we move into the future, it is effective to live with the awareness and presence in order to take charge of where we are and where we are going. The bridge between the past and future is the present; and it is living in the present that we can affect change.

Unfortunately, one cannot change anything in the past. The past, however, can be counteracted only through present actions. The issue is that most of us would want to travel back in time to change parts of our lives. Unfortunately, the past cannot be changed and the past cannot be bridged without the understanding of living in the present. The power to change is always in the present. The present holds the key to the future, and the past holds memory. Memory needs to be used actively, efficiently and effectively. Unfortunately, we all wish we could wipe out some of our memories. The past is never active unless one chooses to relive their memory in their mind and replay their past again and again which is the opposite of living in the present. Living in the future can be just as ineffective. Envisioning a future can stir us to make changes to get to a future state, but again, only in the present can anyone of us seed a future outcome or result.
